Setting Up Bag Tags
How to enable bag tags, configure expiry, and manage tag settings.
Enabling Bag Tags
Bag tags can be enabled when creating a new league or at any time from league settings. To enable them on an existing league, go to League Settings and find the Bag Tags section. Toggle "Enable Bag Tags" on and save your changes. Dynasty will assign initial tags to all current members.
How Initial Tags Are Assigned
When bag tags are first enabled, tags are assigned randomly to all existing members. If your league has multiple divisions, tags are numbered independently within each division (each division starts at #1). If you have a single division or no divisions, all members share one set of tags numbered 1 through N.
New Members
When a new player joins a league that already has bag tags enabled, they automatically receive the next available tag number. If divisions are configured, they get the next number within their assigned division.
Configuring Tag Expiry
Tag expiry encourages consistent participation by forfeiting tags from inactive players. To configure it, go to Bag Tag settings and choose an expiry window. Options range from strict (2 weeks) to maximum (10 weeks), or you can disable expiry entirely. The default is 4 weeks.
- Strict — 2 weeks of inactivity before forfeit.
- Moderate — 3 weeks.
- Standard — 4 weeks (default).
- Relaxed — 6 weeks.
- Extended — 8 weeks.
- Maximum — 10 weeks.
- Never expire — players keep their tags regardless of activity.
How Expiry Works
Dynasty checks tag activity daily. Each tag tracks when the player last participated in an event. If the number of weeks since their last event meets or exceeds the expiry threshold, the tag is automatically forfeited. Forfeited tags don't disappear — the player still holds the tag, but it enters the redistribution pool at the next event. This means forfeited players get pushed to worse positions as active participants take the better tag numbers.
What Happens to Forfeited Tags
During event redistribution, tags are sorted into three groups:
- Participants — players who competed in the event. Their tags and forfeited tags form the redistribution pool. Participants are assigned new tags based on their finish order, best tags first.
- Forfeited non-participants — players whose tags were forfeited due to inactivity. Their tags enter the redistribution pool, and they receive whatever tags are left after participants are assigned. This pushes them to worse positions.
- Protected non-participants — active players who didn't compete but haven't hit the expiry threshold. Their tags are completely protected and don't change.
Reclaiming a Forfeited Tag
A player whose tag has been forfeited can reclaim an active tag simply by participating in the next event. They'll be included in the redistribution pool with all other participants, and their tag status returns to active. No manual action is needed from the coordinator.
Wallet Pass Customization
Coordinators can customize how bag tags appear in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. Customization options include:
- League logo and background image.
- Background and accent colors.
- Toggle visibility of league name, player name, points, and movement indicators.
- Custom tag label (e.g., "Division Rank" instead of "Bag Tag").
Member Departures
When a member leaves the league, their tag is placed in a pending removal state. If they rejoin before the next event redistribution, they reclaim their original tag and position. If they don't rejoin, the tag is cleaned up during the next redistribution and the remaining tags are compacted.
